God is THE greatest painter, but He allows me talent. I've been an artist as long as I can remember. Picasso was still alive when I was 5yrs old...I watched him on TV painting on glass towards the camera...that was IT for me.
Art class was every day in my elementary yrs..ahh old days. Community center art classes & private art classes were my summers. In junior high:3D sculpting in plaster & cardboard, some ink crosshatch. Highschool, medium choices were clay or Lost Wax casting jewelry.
I studied Lost Wax w/Otto Duecker for 2 years. At 17, I set semi-precious stones in bezel, and was commissioned twice in gold. I continued towards jewelry taking Metal Shop at OU's Fred Jones Fine Arts School, however casting was limited and construction was prevelent. Several years later I came across Fire House Art School in Norman Ok and took Lost Wax Casting which was lead by a woman who was married to my OU painting professor!
Great joy to access the equipment again. I plan on auditing a class in the future just to access it all again. Sculpting in wax, casting in metal, then filing & polishing to finish is my cuppa tea.
Watercolor was the only paint I ever used before college. Acrylic is my preference medium due to it's water-base, simplicity for usage and versatility.
Otto is an amazing photo realist painter who taught us about fine furniture, Jonie Mitchell, Fine Art, "Kitch"..and Christo's "Running Fence". When alot of folks flipped out about Christo's project "The Gates" in Central Park, I LOVED it.
Google for Otto Duecker..his work will astound you. Galleries:Santa Fe, La Jolla & London.
During Oklahoma University Fine Arts School.. Art History, Color & Conceptual Theory, Life Drawing, Advertising Design & others;chosen major of Painting. First wall mural in '82 was an ocean/surfer scene..my ocean pictures have come a long way. I am approx 1Yr shy of a Painting Degree. My plate's a bit full to attend college again.
Married 21yrs..my main job is my 2 boys 16&9.
Painting to bring joy to people is very rewarding for me.
I ADORE doing Theraputic Art with seniors.
FYI: Picasso's daughter Paloma designs amazing jewelry & my FAVORITE perfume.
Though it was her mother's fight for her & her brother's last name, Paloma fought not to ride her father's fame. Her art is her own. Art should be appreciated, not idolized.
